Nyungne is the most effective practice for purification of unvirtuous actions and generation of love and compassion, accumulating merit and curing illnesses. This practice was revealed by Bhikshuni Gelongma Palmo, an Indian princess who suffered from leprosy. She performed 12 years of Avalokitesvara practices and became a great siddhi. The 8 vows that have to be kept during this retreat are: no killing, no stealing, no sexual activity, no telling lies, no drinking alcohol, no sitting in high seats and laying in high beds, no evening meals, and no idle chatter, singing or dancing, wearing of makeup or ornaments. We will chant mantras and do prostrations together during the retreat.
